I love a good, well made high quality smoked sausage. If you mix in a nice cheese and maybe some jalapeno, I’m in heaven. On the other hand, it’s hard to beat a fresh sausage made with high quality pork and subtle spices. The experiences are very different and I’m not sure I could choose between one or the other if it came down to naming my favorite.
Surry County Va is a place where life is just a little bit more relaxed and many things still get done the same way our Grandparents did them many years ago. It’s this setting that we turn to for our next review of Hickory Smoked Sausage from Edwards of Surry. Long known for their excellent ham products, Edwards also offers other pork products including various types of bacon, barbecue, and a couple of seafood products like crabcakes (if you haven’t had Blue Crabs, you haven’t had the best). We requested and received a sample package of some of their link sausage products and today we will be reviewing a couple of them.
That’s a big ol’ long name for a sausage!
We have reviewed some of Hillshire’s past attempts at making a sausage that would compete with some of the better regional brands. Unfortunately as you can see here and here, their Gourmet collection fell short of being a good product so how did their new series called American Craft fare in our taste test? Quite well actually.
We recently received a shipment of various smoked sausage and boudin from Borque Specialties in Port Barre La (thanks guys!). I’ve started making my way through some of their fine sausage products but after sampling their boudin, I knew that it was going to be the first product we reviewed for the site.
